Kybella®

Kybella® is an injectable product that can safely and effectively reduce moderate fat below the chin ”double chin”. Kybella® injections are typically performed in a series for best results.

Kybella® is used to decrease the “double chin”, or fatty tissue under the chin.

When you come in for your initial consultation, you will meet with one of our talented and experienced injectors; Jeanne Bernstein RN or Danielle Moser PA-C. Jeanne or Danielle will examine your neck and discuss your goals to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. They will discuss areas that Kybella® can improve as discuss the risks, complications and alternatives to the use of Kybella®. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and make an informed decision as to if Kybella® is right for you and your desired cosmetic outcomes.

If you choose to have Kybella® injections, you may have them done at the same appointment or you may choose to return at another time for the procedure.

There is not a lot of preparation needed to undergo Kybella® injections. We suggest you discontinue the use of aspirin for a week prior to your injections to minimize bruising at the injection site. These injections can easily be performed on your lunch break with little to no recovery.

Kybella® injections are performed by one of our experienced injectors. A grid/map is temporarily applied to your neck to determine the exact locations the injections are needed. A very small needle is used to inject a specific amount of Kybella® into the submental area. At times numbing medication is applied before your injections or ice may be applied for comfort.

You may notice some tenderness in the injection areas and at times some small bruises may be seen. These are typically small and can be covered easily with makeup. A moderate amount of swelling lasting a few days to a couple of weeks is expected. You may return to your regular routine very quickly after your injections.

Kybella® injections work safely and effectively to reduce the “double chin” or fatty tissue in the submental area. This non-invasive procedure can be performed on your lunch break with little downtime.

Kybella® injections have both aesthetic and health risks, and it is your personal decision whether the benefits outweigh the risks. Common risks include bruising, tenderness or areas of firmness at the injection site and discomfort. Significant swelling is also a potential risk, however this typically resolves quickly with no intervention.  At times small lumps may be felt and most times are temporary and resolve on their own with a small amount of massage to the area. Although extremely unlikely there are also more uncommon risks such as infection, nerve injury, facial weakness or difficulty swallowing. For a full list of risks, go to www.plasticsurgery.org.

READY TO BEGIN?

Dr. Maloney’s consultations are in two parts. The first part is the virtual consultation where you will fill out some basic information such as the procedure you are interested in having performed, and you will upload a front and side view photo. Dr. Maloney will review these and determine if you are potentially a surgical candidate as well as give you pricing. After this portion is complete, you will come in for the in-person consultation to discuss your goals and the surgery in greater detail.
