I just wanted to express my gratitude to you for the wonderful work you did revising and repairing my breast reconstruction. In 1993 when I had the bilateral mastectomies and reconstruction involving expanders, the only implants available to me were the saline implants. To follow, about 11 years later when silicone implants were available, I had them replaced while living in Texas.

Only a few years since the second "revision" I came to you with several complaints, as I had a capsulized right breast and the space between my breasts had become "detached", my left breast was also quite a bit lower than the right.

Truly, when I began this journey I was thrilled with whatever breasts I could have via reconstruction, because I knew my new breasts were not going to be cancerous. I also knew I would never be perfect. You not only corrected the deformities, but you rebuilt me to look so natural that for the first time since 1993, I felt pretty. I had accepted not being able to wear bras again, and just this month went out to buy the most beautiful bras I could find and they fit!

I am approaching 60 now and my expectations were just to look a little better, never did I expect to see an image in the mirror of a self I could be proud of, without the scars of the past so evident and unforgettable. In many respects I can set aside those wounds and losses now. There are no words to really thank you, but thank you Dr. Maloney. You have a wonderful gift and you restored not only my breasts, but my spirit.

I have had acne scaring for years. I came to you originally for a chemical peel to get rid of it. You, unlike other physicians I saw, told me that a chemical peel is not what I needed. I just want to let you know how happy I am with my laser hair removal. I have been shaving my face and especially my upper lip every day since I was 12 years old. ...I am so happy to have my sun spots finally disappear after all these years. I had always put sunscreen on my face and neck, but neglected my arms and hands. WOW! I am a totally new person! After loosing over 130 pounds after gastric bypass surgery I had tons and tons of extra skin everywhere. After the first part of the operation (lower body lift), I could not believe how small I really was under all of that extra skin. My face lift took all the extra skin under my chin and neck away and I can't believe how good it looks. My journey started in December of 2008 with a diagnosis of breast cancer. In February of 2009 I had my right breast removed. I then went on to four months of chemotherapy treatment. In early 2010 I started thinking about breast reconstruction. I made the decision to have my left breast removed and to start the reconstruction process. This was a very hard decision to come to and I was very concerned about the whole process. I was given the names of a few different surgeons in Tucson who specialize in breast reconstruction, Dr. Maloney being one of them. I visited or spoke to all of them and while they all seemed qualified I knew the moment I walked into Dr. Maloney's office I felt comfortable and at ease. After a consultation with Dr. Maloney, which included discussion of the removable of my left breast, placement of "expanders" to stretch the chest to accommodate a breast implant and the placement of silicone implants, I made the decision to have Dr. Maloney take care of my surgery.

I had a lot of questions throughout the process and Dr. Maloney and his staff were always great about providing me answers. Something that is of HUGE importance to me is truthfulness and I have to say that Dr. Maloney and his staff are excellent with this.

I went into this process completely understanding that this type of surgery is "reconstruction" surgery; you are receiving "new" breasts, not getting back your originals. This was probably the most important thing for me, I wanted to come away from this process looking "normal", to be able to go out and look like any other woman but I also needed to understand exactly what I was getting in to.

My questions for Dr. Maloney and his staff included:

1. Are there places I can go to talk to women who have had this type of surgery?
2. Does Dr. Maloney know of any women who have come to him that would consider sharing their experience with me?
3. What are expanders?
4. Where are the expanders placed?
5. How are the expanders enlarged?
6. Do the expanders hurt when they are enlarged?
7. Can I live my life as normal while the expanders are in?
8. After the expanders go in how long until the implants go in?
9. What are the implants made of?
10. What sizes are the implants?
11. Will my breasts be the same size they were before my mastectomy?
12. What will my breasts look like when the process is complete?
13. What is the recovery time after the implants are put in?
14. How do I get started?

I always received honest answers from Dr. Maloney and Lindsey to all of these questions.

I had my left breast removed and the expanders placed in my chest on May 26, 2010. After a recovery period from the expander placement surgery, I went to Dr. Maloney's office once a week for Lindsey to enlarge the expanders. The process to enlarge the expanders consisted of a saline injection of 100 cc's in each breast. I chose to go with 100 cc's a week; I believe this is something that each patient determines with Dr. Maloney and Lindsey. Lindsey was always up front and honest with me about the discomfort that could be associated with this process. I can honestly say I had no problem with the expansions, it would take about 10 minutes for Lindsey to complete the injections and I would be on my way. I didn't have any problems at until I was near the end of the expansion process and even then there really wasn't any pain, mostly just discomfort, while you are going through the expansion process you look like you have breasts, they are kind of in the way. They are not soft and don't really move like breasts. Again, I would definitely say it was more of a discomfort than pain. Once we had completed the expansion process we allowed my body time to recover from the expansion process and scheduled my implant surgery. On October 2, 2010 Dr. Maloney removed the expanders from my chest and placed the breast implants in my chest. I am now happy to say that I am completely recovered from my surgeries and I have had a really great outcome. My breasts are a nice size, very close to what they originally were, and they look good in my clothes. I still have to decide about nipple reconstruction but there is no hurry, this can be done anytime.

Throughout this whole process I never really changed my day to day activities. Other than two short recovery periods, after the expanders were placed in my chest and after the implants were placed. I continued to work, babysit my grandkids and horseback ride, all of the things I love to do.

I know that everyone tolerates pain differently but again I have to say, this was not bad at all. If anyone reading this is considering this type of surgery or knows anyone who is, I will always be happy to share my experience. I am very happy with the outcome of my surgery and my experience with Dr. Maloney and his staff; I know I made the right decision in going to him.
