Recovering from Your Deep Laser Resurfacing Procedure

Recovering from Your Deep Laser Resurfacing Procedure

Laser resurfacing can improve the look of a wide range of skin issues on the face, neck, and chest. It’s ideal for many people who are bothered by fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and age spots. The laser treatment can be adjusted for depth. A deep laser treatment is ideal for people with moderate to severe cosmetic issues. Before your treatment, your provider will discuss what you can expect.

Supporting the Healing Process

During the first five days, it’s important to keep the treated skin moist. Your provider will give you special dressings and show you how to apply them. You’ll also wash your skin very gently with a mild cleanser. A diluted vinegar solution will help support the healing process. You’ll use it two to five times daily.

Minimizing Itching and Discomfort

It’s normal to have red, peeling skin for three to five days after a deep laser treatment. After this point, your skin will appear pink for up to 14 days after the procedure. Your skin may itch and form a crust. It’s very important not to scratch at the treated skin. Dislodging the crust may encourage scar formation. You can minimize the itching by applying a cool compress to the skin several times daily. After the fourth day, you may begin applying generous amounts of moisturizer, which will also help your skin feel more comfortable.

Taking Care of Your Skin

A laser treatment will make your skin extra sensitive for a while. Avoid using makeup until a week after the procedure. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure. When you do go outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat and large sunglasses. After the fourth day, begin applying sunscreen every day. Avoid exfoliating your skin for six weeks.
