Getting Your Confidence Back with a Mommy Makeover
Children are a blessing. But there’s no question that giving birth and breastfeeding can cause significant, undesirable changes in a woman’s body. This is especially true for women who have given birth to multiples. Once the children are weaned and a woman is ready to take some time for herself again, she might consider having a mommy makeover.
Understanding Mommy Makeovers
Unlike face lifts or nose jobs, a mommy makeover isn’t any one specific surgery. In fact, it’s usually a suite of multiple procedures, sometimes performed at the same time. Mommy makeovers can be customized to fit your exact goals and needs. Most often, a mommy makeover will include some or all of the following surgeries:
- Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
- Breast lift
- Breast augmentation
- Breast reduction
- Liposuction of multiple areas
Planning Your Mommy Makeover
The best way to determine which surgeries are right for you is to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon who is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. You may find, for example, that a breast lift is more appropriate than breast augmentation. Or, you might decide that both of these procedures are needed to get the results you want. Note that some women may be asked to wait a little while before having a mommy makeover. It’s ideal to be within a healthy weight range. You’ll also need to have stopped breastfeeding. If you plan on having more children, it makes more sense to wait until after you’re done growing your family.
Recovering from Your Mommy Makeover
The length of your recovery time will depend on the specific procedures you’re having, as well as individual factors like your overall health and rate of healing. It’s important to follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully to facilitate your healing and prevent complications. Make sure you have someone available to take care of the kids and run the household during this time.
