Get to Know the Basics of Permanent Makeup

If you could recapture all the time you’ve spent putting on makeup every day, you’d probably have a good deal of free time on your hands. While you may not be able to get that time back, you can stop spending so much of your life applying makeup by opting for permanent makeup instead. Many of our patients here at Maloney Plastic Surgery use permanent makeup in combination with restorative skincare procedures from our Medi-Spa to maintain a flawless look without a long morning routine.

How It’s Used

Permanent makeup is generally applied to two areas of the face where makeup is most often worn: the eyes and the lips. With permanent eyeliner, you’ll always have that finishing touch to perfect your look, but you can always enhance the eyes further with full shadow and mascara. Permanent lip color ensures that your lips always pop and have that ideal pout—even first thing in the morning.

How It’s Applied

Permanent makeup is a lot like tattooing, with pigmented areas serving to enhance your natural features. Unlike tattooing, applying permanent makeup begins with a topic anesthetic to numb the skin. When you come in for a permanent makeup consultation, you should wear your normal daily makeup. This will give the technician an idea of which colors and application areas will benefit you most.

What to Expect

Depending on the treatment area, permanent makeup may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to apply. While the ink used is permanent, you may require a touchup on treated areas as the skin naturally exfoliates over time. Immediately after treatment, you can expect about 2-5 days of swelling and healing.
